Omron Electrotherapy Pain Relief Devices: Product Review

I adore working out and always have, but I will admit, I am not a huge fan of DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness).  You know, the pain you feel within 48 hours of a workout due to the tears you've created in your muscle fibres?  Its different from injury pain, its just your muscles repairing themselves and getting stronger.  But it sucks!

I started having a much more difficult time recovering from my workouts after age 35, and DOMS became a regular thing.  Taking L-Glutamine helps a whole lot but who doesn't love a good message?  Unfortunately, even though Adam's health plan has a bit of coverage for massage, its not much, so I can't afford to be having massages regularly.

So when Omron asked if I'd test out their Pain Relief Pro and Max Power devices for home use, I was, of course, game.

Essentially it sends electrical pulses to massage the muscles through skin pads you stick to the affected area.  I have had similar devices used on me by physiotherapists. The Pain Relief Pro has 8 different message modes and 10 power levels.  The Max Power has 9 modes and 15 levels of intensity.  Don't underestimate its strength, I like a hard massage, but I found level 6 to be enough power!

I did a 15 minute session for my biceps, and another 15 minute session for my hamstrings after one of my arm/leg workouts.  It was awesome.  I will totally be using one of these babies regularly as I have never found anti-inflammatories or the topical muscle creams to be of much use for DOMS.  Being the good wife that I am, I will let my sweet husband use the other one.  Note that the pads are reusable for about 150 uses, and then you can purchase replacements.

I have also been using it in the evenings on my bad left hip/hamstring.  By that time of day when Adam and I sit down to watch a show together, it is generally achy and sitting is often uncomfortable.  I little session with the massager and I feel much better.

The big test, however, was yesterday.  By Monday afternoons I am usually pretty darn sore from my Sunday morning weight workout, but using the Omron on my glutes and biceps preventing me from getting as sore as usual.  Sometimes Tuesday morning I am even more sore, but today I have no soreness at all.  I have to tell you, I am already addicted to this thing!

Even if you don't get DOMS but have muscle strain from your job or an injury, this is a great tool to aid recovery.

Thank you so much to Omron for the products, we will be enjoying them a lot!!

Disclosure: We were sent the units free-of-charge, but all opinions on this blog are my own.

  1. I "ll agree with your post. Now a days its a hard working or a sitting job of almost 9 to 10 hour of it .Due to that our muscles get tired and paining. The best solution to get relief from it get electrotherapy with that essentially it sends electrical pulses to massage the muscles through skin pads you stick to the affected area by that you feel relax and out of pain. Blackfly Coolers: Product Review

Summer is over! Well, at least if you're a student. Officially it doesn't end for a few weeks, and it certainly still feels like summer. Yeah, I hate it. This f*cking hot, humid weather needs to end NOW! We made the most of our last weekend of the summer with our annual trip to the CNE on Friday, with a crowd of friends. It wasn't unbearably lot, thank goodness, and the girls and their friends had a blast on the rides.  Saturday I had to work, and Sunday was errand day. Monday we took the girls berry/apple/pear picking but didn't last long due to the heat. I organized the house to prepare for the construction workers starting back up yesterday, while Adam took the girls for a swim in our neighbourhood pool.

Yesterday was the first day of school. Grade 2 and Grade 5. Yep, the girls are growing up.  We are fortunate that the girls don't have much anxiety about school, they are so much more confident than I ever was as a kid! But now, in the midst of our reno chaos, …

Live Clean

I have been committed to living a healthy life through nutrition and fitness for over 20 years now.

It took me a lot longer to pay attention to what I was cleaning the house with and what I was putting ON my body as opposed to IN it.

When I got pregnant with Big A I started reading about the toxins in a lot of commercial cleaning products and switched to the all-natural, eco-friendly stuff. When I became pregnant with Little A, I switched to all-natural, eco-friendly personal care products.

I am all for being environmentally friendly for the good of the planet, but to be honest, what really motivates me to make these types of changes is concern for my family's health.

You may remember I mentioned giving up my favorite perfume a while back because it apparently is full of nasty chemicals. I switched to the "Red Tea" scent made my Roots, which is supposed to be somewhat "natural". This was only after a number of trial and errors. I first found a woman in …

Panang Curry

When we go out for Thai food, one of my favorite things to order is the panang curry. But there is no doubt when this dish is made in a restaurant, it packs a hefty wallop of fat, sodium and calories.

My version is lightened up, but still rich and flavourful and it is super simple to make.

Traditionally, panang curry is made with either beef or chicken, but I made it vegetarian, using dried seiten (wheat gluten) I got at T&T a few weeks ago. If you are not sensitive to gluten, this is a great source of vegetarian protein. If you cannot find it dried, you can get it prepared at most health food stores. Alternatively, you can use tofu, or the more traditional chicken or beef options.

This dish also doesn't usually have much vegetable matter in it, but I love how yummy veggies taste when simmered in this sauce, and it makes this a healthy one-pot meal. Use whatever veggies you prefer or have on hand.

Protein of choice (2 cups seiten or 1 lb organic tofu, boneless skinless ch…
