I was sent a bag of these gems from Prana to sample recently and they've fab. They are organic, non-GMO and certified gluten-free. They contain 2 probiotic strains: Lactobacillus helveticus LAFTI L10 & Lactobacillus helveticus Rosell-52 ND and are made by a Quebec company (currently products are only available in Canada). This product is already available in stores, in fact, I saw it on the shelf of my local Loblaws store just this past weekend!
Why bother buying chia with added probiotics instead of just regular chia and popping a probiotics capsule? My first thought is that this is perfect for kids who usually aren't able to swallow capsules. Add some to their smoothie, cereal or yogurt and they are automatically getting a nutrition boost from the chia as well as the benefits from the probiotics. Don't add them to acidic foods (citrus, vinegar, tomatoes) or hot foods (warm is okay) or you will kill off the bacteria. Chia puddings are all the rage right now and often a hit with kids, these are perfect for that purpose.
Like all of Prana's products, these are high quality, and, I love that they are a Canadian company :) They taste no different than regular chia.
Both chia and probiotics are great additions to your lifestyle, so if you've never tried either, this is the perfect way get them.
Disclosure: I was provided the product by the company but all opinions on this blog are my own.
